For over five decades, meditation has been an integral part of my life. I began practicing during my first year of university, and it has profoundly shaped my journey. Meditation has kept my mind calm, focused, and sharp, helping me excel in my studies and achieve the grades needed to enter medical school.
During medical school, the days were intense with lectures from 9 AM to 5 PM. By the end of the day, my brain often felt foggy and overloaded. My solution was simple yet transformative: I would find an empty classroom, sit quietly at the back, and meditate for 20 minutes. Afterward, I felt rejuvenated—ready to tackle evening studies with clarity and energy.
Meditation remains a cornerstone of my daily routine.
I practice it every morning and at the end of my workday to melt away stress and regain focus. Sometimes, I meditate in my parked car before driving home, leaving me refreshed and ready to learn more listening to medical tapes so that I can learn more knowledge to serve my patients’ problems.
This practice has not only benefited me but also my family. I taught meditation to my daughters during their school years, empowering them to manage stress and excel academically. One is my daughter Dr. Melody Hui, she is succeeding me to look after you in my practice in the future. The second daughter Vanessa Hui is a caring, successful business lawyer. Both of them have fantastic personality and very compassionate human being.
